Do You Know Your Espresso?

Women have a strong connect with coffee, and when the season is monsoon the connection grows even stronger. While we all know that coffee is a perfect stress-buster when the routine is super busy, which also probably is one of the reasons why busy and multi-tasking women prefer this drink so full of caffeine, what most of us are not aware of is the actual notes of this beautiful drink. We just go for any flavour and strength that the brands lure us with.
Well, not anymore as this coffee appreciation, titlled Bean Talks that recently happened in the capital, conceptulized by Mystic Foodie Mantra and Ruby Singh of ThnkMkt., was all about creating awareness about different types of Espresso coffee, over a beautiful coffee tasting...

For the Love of Expresso....

It was a casual eve at Terminus 1, spent over coffee cuppas, rather tasting shots (see pic). Wondering who was actually giving all this gyan on this caffeine-based drink? It was young & energetic Mumbai-based Teena Khanna, an internationally certified coffee expert , who has been in the retail industry for last seven years. She not just gave a detailed insight of coffee beans, espresso and filter coffee, and the blends that make each expresso unique in it's own way, but also helped us understand the flavours with each shots that kept coming on our tables one after the other...

What's Espresso?

Yes, that's the core question for many of us. What actually is an espresso coffee, and does it differ from filter or any other? Espresso coffee is usually the coffee that we get by brewing finely grounded beans, in boiling water. The brewing is done under pressure and that's how you get the rich, velvety texture with that strong aroma along with the crema on the top. While these are the technical details that define a coffee, for us what's important to know is that the proportion of Robusta and Arabica in your espresso actually add that whole sensation, be it visual or tactile...

Some Coffee Know-how by Teena Khanna...
" These are two different types of coffee and whatever you drink at home or at a costa or a CCD, the combination of both is always there. Robusta has a stronger and harsher taste, on the other hand Arabica is sweeter and milder. So, be it a Latte, a Mocha, or a Cappuccino, they all are the blend of these two," briefed Khanna.

We later asked her how do women like their coffee, and the answer sure was no surprise. "Women love their coffee with lots of chocolate, we women like chocolate, isn't it?
True... want to know how men like their caffeine cuppa? Should be loaded with caffeine, sans any sugar.. Seems like another macho touch in their lifestyle!!

So, next time before you go out and buy that coffee pack, make sure to know about your flavour! After all, it's no ordinary drink but your perfect stress-buster!!
